Engineering Technician

Under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, the incumbent performs a broad range of technical engineering functions in support of project construction and maintenance including planning, coordinating and working with engineering staff in identification, development and determination of feasibility of engineering projects in support of multiple natural resources; preparation of construction surveys, designs, and specifications for construction and maintenance or decommissioning of projects such as roads, minor dams, reservoirs and other recreational area structures; participates in an Interdisciplinary Team in preparation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations; preparation of designs and specifications used in the construction of multiple recreation area projects, minimizing adverse impacts to the landscape; prepares materials to develop contracts for construction supply and requisition. Physical Demands:
Indoor office work necessitates long hours of sitting, intense concentration, answering/dialing the telephone, operating computer terminals including computerized engineering drafting stations. Field work requires extended periods of vehicular and foot travel over steep uneven and rocky mountainous and desert terrain in all types of adverse weather conditions, and considerable strength, stamina, and agility for stooping/bending/lifting. Work requires the ability to effectively cope with pressures associated with both fixed and irregular deadlines, and managing multiple priorities. Work Environment:
Work is routinely performed in a properly heated/cooled indoor office setting and outdoors (in extremely hot/cold/windy/dry/wet weather, rugged terrain, remote sites, and at construction sites) and occasionally at public meetings. Work hazards include; remote areas (unpopulated and semi-populated), crossing mountainous streams, lightning, wildfires, proximity to animals (both wild and domestic), poisonous snakes, poison oak, stinging insects, foot and vehicular travel in rain/snow/ice on uneven steep mountainous terrain/winding roads, which may include heavy brush or debris accumulations, construction sites (falling objects, chemicals, dust, noise, heavy construction equipment) and proximity to mechanical and electrical systems. A valid State driver's license and overnight travel is required. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited if the work provided knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods and precedents such as planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes or instrument or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated, GS-7:
One (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to GS-6 in the Federal service, as an engineering technician or in a directly related position. At the GS-6 level, the work requires training, experience and knowledge of the subject matter. The technician assists with planning and handling problems and deviations in the work in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training or accepted practices; OR 18 semester/24 credit hours of graduate education directly related to the work of this position; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education as described above. GS-8:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-7 in the Federal service, as an engineering technician or in a directly related position. At the GS-7 level, the work requires specialized training and experience and comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter. The technician independently plans and carries out successive steps and handles problems and deviations in the work in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training or accepted practices; OR completed two full years (36 semester hours) of GRADUATE education level college education or received a Master's degree in engineering or a related field. (Note:
undergraduate education cannot be substituted for specialized experience to qualify for GS-8.); OR an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education as described in the vacancy announcement. I have read the vacancy announcement for examples of specialized experience and education needed to qualify for this position. I will provide a copy of my college transcript(s). GS-9:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-8 in the Federal service, as an engineering technician or in a directly related position where I performed very difficult and responsible work requiring considerable specialized training and experience. The work was carried out using independent judgment; OR completed two full years (36 semester hours) of GRADUATE education directly related to the work of an engineering technician (i.e., major study in engineering or a related field). Note:
only graduate education may be used; OR an equivalent combination of the specialized experience and education described above. For example, I have 6 months of specialized experience and I have completed 18 semester hours of appropriate graduate study. Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
